On August 9, on CNN Talkback Live, the Rev. Jerry Falwell stated regarding the recent hypothesis that a meteor from "Mars" showed the existence of life millions of years ago on Mars, that this would in fact violate evangelical or fundamentalist Christians view that the Bible is the infallible and perfect "Word of God." For those who haven't read related articles, see Are We to Interpret the Bible literally; Biblical Errors; Does the Bible Endorse Slavery; Genesis 2:24; King Constantine, The 13th Apostle of Christ; The Sin of Sodom & Gomorrah; Was "Apostle" Paul Bisexual; Was Paul an Apostle; Was John the Baptist Homosexual; Was Paul an Apostle; What is The Word of God.
Jerry Falwell, being the Chancellor of Liberty University, is supposed to be an educated man, I would hope in more than just religious polemics. According to Mr. Falwell's infallible, "to be literally interpreted Bible," God has said,
Isaiah 36:12
12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
"That they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?" Is this pornographic or socially acceptable behavior before God by man?
2 Kings 18:27
27 But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
"That they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?" Is this acceptable behavior? Its from the Bible so it must be!
Deuteronomy 28:53
53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness (sic), wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
"And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters,...." Come on Mr. Falwell, literal or figurative? The literal word of God or not? Is from your Bible!
Deuteronomy 25:11-12
11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth (sic) him, and putteth (sic) forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
Ouch! Does she have long finger nails? Literal pain! However, the word "secrets" means testicles or buttocks! She is to put forth her hand and took him by the balls (testicles) or ass! Really... then what? Sounds a little kinky!
Deuteronomy 23:1
1 ¶ He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
One who is ruptured in the testicles or has his penis cut off, can not enter into the congregation of the LORD. Does this condemn the person kicked in the testicles by a horse, to the same fate as the transsexual. This may have been the Law of Moses but not the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
1 Samuel 5:9
9 And it was [so], that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
God smote the men of the city with hemorrhoids or bleeding piles?
1 Samuel 6:4
4 Then said they, What [shall be] the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, [according to] the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague [was] on you all, and on your lords.
"The trespass offering" is "five golden (hemorrhoids) and five golden mice." Who is making the golden images of hemorrhoids?
Malachi 2:3
3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces,
[even] the dung of your solemn feasts; and [one] shall take you away with
it.
Sounds like a kinky sex trip of sadomasochistic bondage and disciple people! It is sanctioned in Mr. Falwell's Bible then he has the gall to rail against gay people's practices.
If that isn't enough, lets turn to The New Testament, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the words of Jesus Christ. According to Mr. Falwell's "to be literally interpreted" Bible, Christ said John the Baptist was a homosexual (see Are We to Interpret the Bible Literally? and Was John the Baptist Homosexual? in these Journals of Discourses). Sorry Mr. Falwell, you can't have it both ways. Either Malakos means homosexual or it doesn't. Either way, the translation is wrong! Choose your poison!
In your "to be interpreted literally" Bible, God said,
Psalms 8:3
3 ¶ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the
moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
How can you have more than one heaven unless there is more than one God? Not that we are responsible to, but more than one just the same.
1 Corinthians 8:4-6
4 ¶ As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are
offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the
world, and that [there is] none other God but one.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
While there are Gods many and Lords many, whether in heaven or in earth, there is but one God we'll have to answer to in the day of Judgment (see Allah vs Christ in these Journals of Discourses).
Hebrews 1:2
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath
appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Hebrews 11:3
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word
of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do
appear.
Either the Bible is not the " absolute, literal word of God" as Jerry Falwell claims it is or the scriptures above, only began to educated mankind about a principle which man was not ready for in Christ's era but has been revealed in our time (see The Book of the Millennial Dispensation).
That principle is as Paul wrote to the Christians of Corinth,
1 Corinthians 8:5 & 6
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in
earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
When I was introduced to God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, although God the Father introduced himself to me as Eloheim, I read that in the Jewish tradition, "Eloheim" means a plurality of "Gods. Whether God the Father introduced himself as "Eloheim" or the Godhead responsible for the affairs of the Earth being God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost as "Eloheim" is rather a mute point. That's one of the "mysteries" I referred to in the preface, i.e. an interesting tid bit that will no doubt satisfy some people's curiosity, but it will do nothing to insure their salvation. However, the Jewish tradition supports Paul's contention that there are gods many and lords many both in heaven and on earth but there is only one God to whom mankind is responsible to.
To me, you and all other citizens of planet Earth, there is but one God, Jesus Christ, our elder bother who gave up his life, died on the cross and was resurrected so we might live. If there is no Father, who is "God the Father" that Christ told man was His Father and our Father and that He, Christ, was created in the express image of the Father? How can you have a son without a Father and, yes, how can you have a Father and Son without a Mother?
Truly, "Worlds without number have I created."
Would life on another planet disprove the existence of God? It would certainly disprove the existence of Jerry Falwell's God but of the true and living God the Father and His son Jesus Christ, it would prove their existence.
Yes, as for the people of the Earth, there is but one God with whom
we need to be concerned. We are not responsible to any other God but first,
to Jesus Christ and ultimately to our Father, to Christ's Father, to the
Father of every other living being, God the Father (see Allah vs Christ
in these Journals of Discourses)!
