GENESIS 2:24

Those who make the claim that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve, are surprisingly and astonishingly accurate. Maybe they read, at least this one scripture in the Bible. They use this much touted and greatly misunderstood scripture which reads:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Initially, when the prophets wrote the Word of God, man was as a baby. He was not sophisticated in his thought processes or his knowledge of life for man on earth. After Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, man's recollection of God's Plan for Mankind and all knowledge was taken away from him. Adam and Eve had to learn starting at the very basics. Adam and Eve had to learn about themselves, about the earth, about the plants and about the animals. Adam and Eve were as unsophisticated infants who were self-centered and concerned only about themselves. Adam lived for 930 years during which time, man increased in knowledge. But it is factitious to believe that man thought or even cared about animals beyond the realization that animals were substancence for man and man was given dominion over the animals and every creeping thing on earth. Adam and no doubt Eve, were concerned about their survival and the survival of their descendants, not about the survival of horses, cows or pigs. In the beginning, they walked and talked with God but that is certainly not to say they were intellectually on the same level. Everything man was told by God, man interpreted as being regarding and concerning himself, his own existence and survival.

The story of the creation is a beautiful example of God's telling man that which he was able to comprehend. Just as God didn't expect Adam and Eve to grasp the basics of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Chemistry or even Physics, things which were extremely elementary to Him, God told man what he could understand. In the 20th Century, people get off by saying this is only telling half he truth and therefore a lie. For those who are inclined to call God a liar, before I concede with you that in your opinion God lied, let me ask you, "When your 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 year old son or daughter asks you where babies come from, how many of you are going to sit them down and even if you could, give them a detailed course in Anatomy and Reproduction 101 not to mention the advanced post graduate level courses? No one! You're becoming sophisticated because I doubt anyone would if you could. God is no different.

When God related to man the story of the creation, you honestly expected God to go into detail and explain how He created the heavens and the earth? Would man have even been able to comprehend what he was told even if man had been able to record it? Remember, even a written language was just new to man. For man to learn about the animal kingdom would have required an elementary course in "The Difference between Man and Animal 101," even before the remedial course in Biology 101.

When God said He created the heavens and the earth in 7 days, you can take that to the bank. But, one then has to ask him or herself, is one day to man equal to one day with God? The revealed Word of God of that it is not but again, that gets into belief. Are you mature and sophisticated enough to comprehend the truth or are you a literalist who believes what is written because it is written! For those of you who are Christian and are literalists, let me first remind you that you are dealing with a book that has been translated several thousand times, not by God's Urim and Thummin, or Seer Stones, but man's own ability and intellect. If you are a Christian literalist, you're going to hell because you deny Christ, the head of your faith and because for example according to Leviticus 19:19, you can't wear a polyester jump suit, skirt or blouse because it was mingled with cotton.

He that hath understanding, explain what is meant by:

Isaiah 36:12
12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
or
2 Kings 18:27
27 But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
or
Deuteronomy 28:53
53 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
or
Deuteronomy 25:11
11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity [her].

or
Deuteronomy 23:1
1 ¶ He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
or
1 Samuel 5:9
9 And it was [so], that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
or
1 Samuel 6:4
4 Then said they, What [shall be] the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, [according to] the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague [was] on you all, and on your lords.
or even
Malachi 2:4
3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, [even] the dung of your solemn feasts; and [one] shall take you away with it.

Jesus Christ, the founder of your religion, said,

Matthew 5:17
17 ¶ Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (sic).

Clearly, you can not interpret the Bible literally in every case but you must interpret it with the Spirit of God. The Apostle Paul said,

1 Corinthians 2:11
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

The early writers and scribes recorded the truth as they understood it. Man was the center of that understanding and the purpose for any life on earth. When man recorded Genesis 2:24

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

the prophet was merely explaining how God was able to create the heavens, the earth and all life thereon by simply issuing to the elements an order and it was done. Man was not sophisticated enough to realize that, that edict pertained not only to the reproduction of all human life but also animal life as well. By so stating:

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

the early prophets were enunciating that this was how God ordered the universe as it pertains to earth for purposes of procreation for all life. That is the only relevance and significance of Genesis 2:24.
